DONNA IN DE SPOTLIGHT |
The beginning of the dog sport of our Bella Donna v / d Vastenow
Around 8 years ago we got a German Shepherd puppy. I did puppy training with her and I started to like it. It is so nice.
We followed with Elementary Obedience and Continuing Elementary Obedience.
Then we went to the IPO, but after a while Tosca went lame to the vet.
Immediately: stop with sport, she has Hd.
Then I started to search for a dog which would fit with me and which would let me continue with the dog sport.
And then I came to a Dutchie. It was our Bella Donna v / d Vastenow.
She went immediately as a puppy to the IPO. Searching, appeal and protection sport (started with annoying with a jute bag)
and after a while some Traffic Secure Dog. She passed with 57 points to IPO I.
Searching and appeal was fun for Donna and it was going good but protection sport was not so interesting. We tried it for a while and then I decided to search something else what will suit both of us better.
We found Obedience and we simply started to train a little. We went to some competitions in the beginner’s class. We received few cups and we got our diploma during the competition as well.
Then we were selected by the club (from each club in the Netherlands should participate 1 participant) to attend in the Hans Baretta in the RAI in Amsterdam.
This was a bad experience for us. Donna was very stressed then; the whites of her eyes were scarlet.
And throughout the day she has not done her needs, she is not used to do it on pavement but in grass.
In this period I had to completely re-start again.
She did her stay exercises no more. But we just continued.
We also just went to the competitions, we had our diploma Obedience I - for all the exercises 10 points and for stay exercise 0 points, therefore 280 points.
In the 2007-2008 season Donna still has problems with competitions, she does not do stay exercise. But we continue because the other exercises are just okay.
The other contest participants used to say that they would give it up already long time ago.
But the last 8 matches this season she suddenly started to do the stay exercises again.
In the last competition we got an invitation to participate in the
DUTCH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008
So it was September the 7th, the big day. First the lots were drawn; they were small chocolates with the number on the back, which was the starting number.
We had 105 it means Obedience I as the 5th contestant.
The competition was different than normal. Usually you have a morning and an afternoon program but it was all together now. And there are two full competitions.
Then the Wilhelmus began to play at 9:00 and the game started.
She did well the stay exercise with 6 dogs in the ring, so she had those points already.
After, everybody was showing their skills.
Follow and follow free went fine, lay during the follow, also aport, jump, come on command and sending back to the place and also appeal on the distance to finish.
Well that went not bad. Also in the afternoon everything ran smoothly and i heard from everyone: you go well. I thought myself that it will finish on 10th place.
The award ceremony, everyone was called to the front to receive their certificates. There were 18 participants in our class so when the 11th place came I said: now it is my turn for the 10th place... but no.
5th place - not yet, 3rd - not and I shouted: It can’t be true! We are
DUTCH CHAMPION OBEDIENCE I 2008

Greatings and the paw from Donna.
